The Farm Adventure: Eggs & Animals (KS1 & KS2)

Embark on an exciting guided tour perfect for younger learners! This session delves into the fascinating world of egg production, highlighting how we care for our animals at Yolk Farm. Students will discover the important roles of different farm animals and have the chance to get up close and personal with our hens and other friendly residents. This hands-on experience brings science and geography to life, fostering an understanding of the natural world and animal welfare.

  • Focus: Egg production, animal welfare, roles of farm animals, connection to nature.
  • Subjects Covered by Curriculum: Science (Animals including humans), Geography (Human and physical geography), PSHE (Understanding the world).

Investigating Egg Production: A Farm-Based Inquiry (KS3 & KS4)

This session encourages a more inquiry-based approach to understanding egg production. Students will be guided to ask questions, make observations, and potentially collect data related to aspects like hen behaviour, egg quality, or environmental factors within the farm. The tour will be structured to facilitate investigation and discussion around topics such as the impact of diet on egg quality, the relationship between hen welfare and productivity, or the challenges of balancing production demands with sustainability goals.

  • Focus: Scientific inquiry, data collection (potential), critical thinking, animal behaviour, production factors.
  • Potential Links: Science (Biology, Working Scientifically), Geography (Research Skills), potentially Maths (data analysis).

Plan Your Unforgettable School Visit to Yolk Farm Today!

  • Duration:  Standard visits are approximately 2 hours, perfectly fitting into a school day. Full or half-day options are also available, offering a richer experience with a combination of engaging sessions and relaxed free time.
  • Picnic Area: Schools are warmly invited to utilize our designated indoor or outdoor picnic areas for lunch.
  • Group Size: To ensure a high-quality and engaging experience for all students, our maximum group size is 30 students. For larger groups, please contact us to discuss how we can best accommodate your needs.
  • Supervision: To maintain a safe and enjoyable environment, we recommend the following adult-to-child ratios:
    • KS1: 1 adult per 6 children
    • KS2 and above: 1 adult per 10 children
  • Cost: Our standard rate is £17.50 per child. Accompanying adults are welcomed free of charge.

  • Payment: Once your booking is confirmed, an invoice will be sent, and payment is required in advance to secure your visit.
  • Cancellation Policy: We understand that plans can change. We kindly request a minimum of one month's notice for cancellations. Cancellations made with less than one month's notice may be subject to a charge of the full booking fee.
  • Special Educational Needs (SEND): At Yolk Farm, we are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience for all students. Please discuss any specific requirements for SEND students at the time of booking so we can ensure appropriate support and adjustments are in place.
  • Risk Assessment: The safety of your students is paramount. Our farm is fully risk assessed, and copies of our comprehensive risk assessment documents are available upon request.
  • Health & Safety:
    • Our friendly and experienced staff are always first aid trained and on-site to assist you.
    • We kindly request all visitors to wear appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy, closed-toe footwear, as farm environments can be muddy and uneven.
    • Handwashing stations with soap and water are conveniently located throughout the farm, and thorough handwashing is required after any contact with animals. Hand sanitizer is also readily available as an additional precaution.
