Job Summary:
Yolk Farm is a diversified farm in North Yorkshire open to the public with a farm shop, egg restaurant and children's play barn. We are a fast growing business and are looking for someone to manage and grow the farm operations to complement and enhance the commercial operations on the farm. Our vision is to bring people together through real food, real fun and real people and to teach people in a fun way about where their food comes from.
We are seeking a skilled Farm Manager to oversee the daily operations of our farm. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of farm activities, from crop cultivation to animal care. There is the potential for accommodation to be provided for the right candidate.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate farm activities, including planting, irrigation, and harvesting
- Supervise our farm worker and provide guidance on daily tasks
- Maintain and repair farm equipment, both hand tools and power tools
- Ensure proper care and welfare of farm animals (500 high welfare free range hens, 4 pgymy goats, 8 alpacas, 3 kune kune pigs)
- Monitor and manage garden areas for optimal growth
- Utilise mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues
- Perform heavy lifting tasks as required
- Conduct equipment repairs and maintenance as needed
- Implement basic maths skills for inventory management and budgeting
- Taking initiative and direction to build new elements or refurbish old buildings for commercial use
- Replacing/repairing fencing
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in farm management or a related field
- Proficiency in growing vegetables for profit
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery effectively
- Skilful in animal care practices and welfare standards
- Strong understanding of garden maintenance and crop cultivation techniques
- Mechanical knowledge for equipment troubleshooting and repairs
- Capability to perform heavy lifting tasks regularly
- Competency in equipment repair and maintenance procedures
- Proficient in basic maths for inventory tracking and financial planning
